Whatever Happens Today…
By Dennis Loo (11/6/12)
Whoever is elected – or eventually installed as president - whether they received the most votes and won enough electoral college votes or they take the White House through fraud, either by vote count manipulation and vote suppression or by pretending to be the agent of change and being given a second term because his opponent was just too grotesquely a plutocrat – the situation after today will nonetheless be fundamentally the same.
The U.S. president will carry forward a covert and quite probably overt war upon Iran and the other nations that are being occupied by U.S. forces, the privatization of core parts of the New Deal will continue, the gap between the 1% and the rest of us will grow wider and wider, global warming’s catastrophic impact on the planet will accelerate, devastating larger and larger swaths of the globe, women, minorities, LGBT folks, and immigrants will continue to catch hell, education will remain under siege from the privateers, the rule of law will be more and more openly replaced by executive actions and dissent will be further criminalized.
What will also continue and increase will be the basis for people to rise in protest and seek another world than the terrible one that those in charge of us are presiding over.
Elections are not a solution for those who seek justice and fairness. People have to grow up politically and prepare for struggle, recognizing that what we have going for us is our collective strength as the people and that facts, reason, and morality are also on our side, if we choose to use them and rise in their defense, for they are all under siege.
