"It's Not Illegal to Follow Someone"
By Dennis Loo (7/27/13)
"It's not illegal to follow someone": If I had the proverbial nickel for every time I've heard someone say this as a prelude to justifying sociopath George Zimmerman's execution of Trayvon...
It's not illegal to chamber a bullet in a gun either. It's just illegal (or ought to be) to then use that gun to blow someone away who was doing no one any harm.
Oh, he used to smoke marijuana? He got in fights with other boys? Or, sure, then it's fine to shoot him in the heart. Yeah, he deserved it. Go ahead, it's your right as an American.
Oh, you think he punched Zimmerman and that's why Zimmerman just had to put the gun right up to Trayvon's chest, pressing against his hoodie's fabric right over his heart, and then fire?
If you think that Zimmerman was justified in doing that, because "it's not illegal to follow someone," then you will believe anything.
How come Trayvon didn't have a right to defend himself? If Zimmerman had a right to use deadly force to kill Trayvon, supposedly in self-defense, then how come Trayvon didn't have a right to defend himself?
It's not illegal to follow a woman ... but it is illegal (or should be) to then rape her.
It's not illegal for a pedophile to follow a child in the park... but it is illegal (or should be) to have that pedophile defile that child.
It's not illegal for the KKK to follow black people...but it is illegal (or should be) to have them lynch those black people.
It's not illegal for the police to follow black people...but it is illegal (or should be) for the police to shoot them in the back.
It's not illegal for the NSA to follow each and everyone of us everywhere we go... but it is illegal, oh wait, Congress just said it's ok!
It's not illegal to trump up reasons to invade a country that wasn't threatening you. Oh wait, it IS illegal to do that under the UN Charter and the Nuremberg War Tribunals. But if you're the baddest empire on the planet then you can get away with it.
It's not illegal to think stupid thoughts like "it's not illegal to follow someone" but you ought to learn how to think or, better yet, examine those racist/sexist/national chauvinist assumptions in your head that lead you to say moronic things like that.
