Making Russian Oligarchs Great Again

Making Russian Oligarchs Great Again

By Dennis Loo (1/11/17)

The unfolding scandal involving the former MI-6 operative’s highly disturbing report on Trump and his team is the subject of this commentary.

As a preface to this, some pertinent general observations:

While surely Trump can be called out for and convicted of treason, I don’t share the perspective of US leaders and their rivalry with the Russians. What Trump and his team are, however, up to, is collusion that is mutually profitable to Trump and his business partners. It is from that vantage point, not nationalism that Trump, his family and camp, and his Russian oligarchs, are primarily proceeding from.

“Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets,” Trump’s son, Donald Jr., told a real estate conference in 2008, according to an account posted on the website of eTurboNews, a trade publication. “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.” (

Second, we have little interest in the MI-6 and our various assembled US intelligence viewpoints as a premise that they are the really good guys and the Russians are the bad guys. When was the last time the FBI, NSA, CIA, DIA and so on were in agreement; that’s right, never. They are all oligarchs/elites and we have nothing in common with them. The new order that Trump and Company intend is fascist, surely not “draining the swamp of D.C.” His appointees and nominees make that very clear. I guess more billionaires in D.C. is what he means by bringing in “outsiders.” But the infighting that this released report reflects is indicative of fault-lines in the ruling class and something the people can surely take advantage of.

Third, the Democrats and the GOP are, for the most part, not allies with the public.  They cannot and will not lead us to a solution, contrary to the wishes of people like Naomi Klein, Michael Moore, or Keith Ollbermann. The Democrats and the GOP will not prevent and/or remove Trump from the presidency unless the actions of the people from below force that outcome. The Democrats have more in common with even unfit Trump than they do with us and they and the Republicans have been and are doing everything they can to remove Trump, but short of a legitimacy crisis which is primarily due to actions from below, has not and will not occur.

Is Trump subject to Russian blackmail? Is he irredeemably compromised? Well, yes. The Russians have been “cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years.” (p. 1) What form has that included? While Trump has far “declined various sweetener real estate deals” but most seriously “he and his inner circle have accepted a regular flow of intelligence from the Kremlin, including on his Democratic and other political rivals.” (p. 1)

The contacts and cooperation between Trump and inner circle with the Russians has been protracted, extensive and intensive. I am reminded of Chiang Kai-shek’s behavior in the 1930’s and 1940’s when rather than focus on the Japanese invaders to China, he left them alone and instead put his military efforts into trying to annihilate the Chinese Communists.

Trump and his people have little allegiance to nation but more in common with their like in Russia, class collusion, just as the KMT (Kuomintang) under CKS did in China. To their credit, the CCP recognized the main danger to China was the Japanese and had to temporarily kidnap CKS to get his agreement to turn his guns on the Japanese imperialists first.

I have much more to say. I will continue to comment on this situation. Stay tuned.
